Origami Bookmarks

Bookmarks are great, but you know what’s better? A bookmark you can make (almost) on the fly. Let’s be real, if you’re reading a book, chances are the last thing on your mind is keeping a bookmark on hand. At least, that’s how it is for me, so knowing how to make origami bookmarks is super useful.

I do recommend having scissors on hand for this project, but it’s fine to use any square paper you have. Personally, I have this old note block that I bought many years ago in highschool, with dozens of square pieces of paper. Somehow, I still haven’t run out of them, but it’s good to grab a piece and make a new bookmark when I’m in a rush. Especially useful when I’ve forgotten where my actual bookmarks are.

If you’re looking for more paper crafts, definitely have a gander through my tag right here. Don’t forget to pass this on to your book-loving friends, and show me your simple origami bookmarks on Twitter with the hashtag #ConfoundedDIY or in the comments below. I’ll see you next time!

Origami Bookmarks

Active Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: ♥♡♡♡♡

An easy bookmark you can make on the go, useful for those moments you need to save a page quickly!

Materials

  • Paper
  • Washi tape (optional)
  • Decorative pieces (optional)

Tools

  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut out a 15cm x 15cm square of paper.
  2. Take one corner and fold it to the opposite corner to form a triangle.
  3. Next, you need to fold the bottom corners up to form a diamond. Unfold them again.
  4. Following the diagram, there should be two corners at the top, a front and a back. Take the front corner, and fold it down, using the previous folds as a guide.
  5. Next, take one of the bottom corners, and fold it back up. Fold it, and tuck it into the triangle.
  6. Repeat step 5 for the other bottom corner.
  7. (Optional) Finally, decorate! Try to avoid any 3d decorations, as they can damage the pages of your book when you close the book. Washi tape and colouring pens are the best way to decorate these bookmarks.

Notes

To use the bookmark, slip it over the corner of the page you’re on.
