Origami Organiser Boxes

Staying organised is a never-ending quest, and cleaning up drawers is one of those impossible tasks. But itty bitty things can have their feral chaos contained in small boxes, so it’s not all doom and gloom. Well, maybe my drawers are beyond saving, but you guys can save yourselves by making these little origami organiser boxes to keep those small bits and bobs more manageable.

Thankfully, they’re not too difficult to make either. A dozen of these slapped into a drawer, all with different sizes, then you’re good to go! Everything can have its place in no time. And, if you need a quick mini box to keep things in (I’m thinking, screws and the like), then knowing how to make one of these is a great asset.

This one goes out to those folk who are just as disorganised as I am, may we one day get back on track. Throw a bunch of these on Twitter with the hashtag #ConfoundedDIY or in the comments below, and show me how organised you guys have gotten your drawers. Need more paper crafts? Check them out here. Hope you have fun on this one!

Materials

  • Paper
  • Decorative bits and bobs

Tools

  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut out a square of paper that’s 15cm x 15cm.
  2. Take the top edge, and fold the square in half downward.
  3. With that edge still in hand, fold again, back up to meet the top edge.
  4. Flip over, and repeat steps 2-3 on the other side.
  5. Fold down each of the top edges, 0.5cm from the top.
  6. On one side, fold the two bottom corners up, and tuck them under the fold. Flip over, and repeat on the other side.
  7. Next, open it up and lay it flat, with folds facing upwards.
  8. Tuck your fingers into the two centre flaps, and pull them up to open up the sides of the box. Adjust and crease the corners to strengthen the sides of the box.
  9. (Optional) Decorate! Washi tape, stick-on gems, anything works fine on these origami organiser boxes.

Notes

If you want to strengthen your boxes, then feel free to line the edges with card. For general use though, they’re fine on their own.
