Relaxing Glitter Jars

I’ve talked about glitter jars before, but dang, why haven’t I shown you how to make them yet? I love my glitter jar. After a tough day of working, I’m usually too worn and stressed to do most of my coping methods to get back on track. I’m sure you’ve felt that before: the bone-deep tiredness that feels like you’ve moved a mountain all week. Doing regular coping strategies like taking a relaxing bath or exercising can be a nightmare in this weary state.

Glitter jars? Glitter jars are easy. Just pick one up, give it a rough shake with all the anger you’ve pent up, and watch that glitter swirl about like the crashing waves on a beach. These make a perfect accessory to mindful meditation. Whether it’s the sound of sloshing water, or the glint of light on each glitter like sun on sand, glitter jars are relaxing. They’re a panacea to life’s annoyances, lifting a moment of frustration enough to cope in more long term ways.

The best part? Oh, the best part is you get to enjoy glitter and all its glorious trappings without a mess. Glitter jars don’t leave insidious bits of shiny goodness in your carpets for weeks to come. No, its all put in a jar to swirl and delight without a single piece out of place. Truly, they’re the most wonderous form of relaxing glitter crafts.

Once you’ve added your glitter jar to your self-care box, pass this tutorial on to a glitter loving friend so they, too, can enjoy its wonders. Better still, share your glitter jars on social media with the hashtag #ConfoundDIY, because they’re awesome and dang, I want to see them. Hope you enjoy making a super simple glitter jar, and I’ll see you next time!

A relaxing glitter jar to help with mindful meditation.

  • Small jar
  • Water
  • Glitter
  • Glitter paint
  • Decoration (stickers, pattern paper etc.)

  • Glue
  • Scissors (Optional)

  1. (Optional) Paint the lid first, and let it dry completely.
  2. Fill the jar with 1/3 Glitter paint.
  3. After that, fill it with glitter to the halfway point
  4. Next, begin adding water, stirring it through as you go
  5. Once the water is near the top, stop, and keep stirring. You need to stir until the paint has completely mixed with the water.
  6. Top it off with a little bit more water until it's completely full, then glue the lid on the glitter jar. Let it dry fully.
  7. Decorate! Cut out a circle of pattern paper and glue it on the top, or tie a ribbon around the neck.

Regular glitter adds more shimmer to the jar, while glitter glue thickens the mixture up so it stays shimmery for longer. You must add some paint to the mixture, otherwise, the glitter will fall really quickly. If you don't have glitter, then add more glitter glue to make up for it. Apart from that though, you can experiment with glitter and paint to make all sorts of different effects!
